The proposal for new play equipment at Cradhurst Recreation ground has been approved by Mole Valley District Council's Policy Committee by 12 votes to 1.
The Committee was clearly aware of local concerns. For this reason it was decided to install a removable half pipe skateboard ramp in a well-screened position and to review the decision in 12 months' time. At this point a further survey and test of opinion will be carried out.
Liberal Democrat Campaigner and Council candidate, Ian Fraser Ker said, "Whilst I am pleased that young people will have this new facility, the concerns of residents close to the site are very understandable and need to be taken seriously.
"If elected in May, I will do my best to ensure that the consultation and review are fair and open-minded. I hope that we will not suffer problems such as vandalism. If we do, then the decision to provide the skateboard facility has to be reconsidered."
