Penny inspects the damage to her car
One of the most pressing problems in Leatherhead is parking. Visibility is so poor in many streets that accidents will happen as Liberal Democrat Councillor Penny Hedgeland found last month when her car was driven into. "Thank goodness no one was hurt" said Penny, "but bad parking makes access to our streets so dangerous. There could be a serious accident at any time."
Over a year ago Penny accompanied a Randalls Rd resident to present a parking petition to Surrey County Council. Since then Penny has been regularly speaking and writing to Surrey Highways urging them to sort out this issue. She added "The consultation in August 2007 seemed to have been put on the back burner but, after much pestering, Surrey Highways have agreed to have another meeting with us and to have firm proposals to consider by March 2008".
