Mole Valley has adopted Margaret Cookey's proposal to collect used batteries
Liberal Democrat Councillor Margaret Cooksey was impressed on a recent visit to Greece by the collection system for batteries which was operated there with the help of banks and shops. Batteries are toxic waste and should be separated from the refuse that is sent to landfill sites.
In Mole Valley Councillor Cooksey proposed that containers for the collection of batteries should be provided at appropriate bring sites and at reception points in council premises and that negotiations with supermarkets, banks and building societies should be held with a view to collection points being established on their premises. The Council agreed the proposal unanimously and will implement the new scheme as soon as possible.
