Alice Humphreys campaigning at Westminster for victims of asbestos
Alice Humphreys (2nd from left), Parliamentary Candidate for Mole Valley Liberal Democrats, is supporting the campaign to bring justice for victims of exposure to asbestos.
Exposure to asbestos can cause a cancer called mesothelioma which many workers developed as a result of their employer not abiding by health and safety laws. For example, workers sawing asbestos boards or working with asbestos lagged pipes without protective clothing or masks, could inhale large amounts of asbestos dust. Because the damaging exposures were often decades ago and the employers concerned may have gone out of business employers' liability insurance can be difficult to trace and the victims are demanding Government action.
Alice Humphreys says: "Too many people have lost their lives to this terrible industrial disease. The Government must do more to help. It should be investing in greater research into finding a cure for mesothelioma, and must set up an Employers' Liability Insurance Bureau with a national database which stores details of all employers' insurance policies."
