Local Liberal Democrats presenting a petition to restore food waste collections last year
Liberal Democrats and environmental campaigners are celebrating the news that collection of food waste is to be extended to the whole of Mole Valley in the near future. This follows a successful trial in Bookham and Fetcham involving weekly collection of food waste in separate small containers. The trial was initially scrapped by the Conservative administration but reinstated after a strong campaign by the Liberal Democrats and local residents.
Liberal Democratic Councillor Caroline Salmon said, "This is great news and brings a long-standing Liberal Democrat campaign towards a successful conclusion. As well as reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill, it will also help to reduce problems with smelly bins in hot summer weather."
Parliamentary candidate Alice Humphreys added, "The Liberal Democrats want to see serious action taken at both national and local level to protect the environment and halt climate change. I am delighted that local campaigning has achieved this step forward."
