Sexual health clinics - more mismanagement

Claire Malcomson - the Lib Dem councillor who has led the campaign to keep clinics at LeEatherhead

Over the past 2 weeks, different local Liberal Democrat activists have made visits to the re-instated Sexual Health clinics at Leatherhead Hospital - 10-12:30 Mondays & Fridays. Whilst the clinics have been open and staff have been present, there have been very few patients. The reason is very simple - there is almost no publicity about the clinics and the processes to book appointments at Leatherhead do not seem to work. One of our activists tried to use the telephone numbers to book an appointment at Leatherhead; the first number (at Buryfields in Guildford) was not answered -at 2:30pm on a Tuesday. The second number was answered at Earnsdale in Redhill, but the person who answered was not aware of any clinics in Leatherhead. Eventually when we spoke to the manager at Earnsdale, we were told that they are having problems getting their computer systems able to make appointments.

It is clear that the process of transition to the new providers has been neglected and grossly mis-managed by the Conservative administration at County Hall. Urgent action is needed to rectify the situation and ensure that the clinics are properly publicised.

Meanwhile we suggest that anybody needing an appointment tries ringing 01737 231350 or 01483 783 340. If this doesn't work we suggest they simply turn up at the clinic at Leatherhead Hospital between 10 & 12:30 on Monday or Friday and try to use it as a walk-in clinic.

This local service is simply too important for it to be lost simply because the new arrangements are not being publicised.
