Threat to Epsom Hospital

August 30, 2017 4:51 PM

Paul Kennedy headshotLocal Liberal Democrats are warning of a threat to services at Epsom Hospital after Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust launched a consultation exercise on six options for the future of its hospitals. Four of these options - described as scenarios - would mean transferring specialist acute services to other hospitals in London, which would mean longer travel times for Mole Valley residents.

The Lib Dems had previously warned that Epsom could be downgraded following a community hospitals review by Surrey Downs CCG in 2015-6. That review confirmed the closure of all the beds at Leatherhead Community Hospital and proposed their transfer to the Epsom Hospital site, subject to a review of Epsom Hospital's future. Lib Dem Councillor and Parliamentary Spokesperson Paul Kennedy says: "There is a real risk with NHS cuts that the consultation will turn into a beauty contest between hospitals for residents living in South-West London - without any consideration of the needs of patients outside London. That's why it's vital that Mole Valley residents respond to the consultation."
