Concerns about plans for new village near Capel

September 15, 2017 4:40 PM

New Ockley village mapMole Valley District Council is starting work on a new Local Plan which will determine what development can take place in the next 15 years. Local residents are concerned that this could lead to significant expansion of one of our villages or even a completely new village in our area - perhaps near the station between Capel and Ockley.

So far the Council has estimated a need for 5,900 new homes whilst sites for only 2,900 have been identified. To make up the difference, the Conservative leadership of the District Council is looking to expand an existing built up area, to expand a village, or to build a new stand-alone settlement. And the Conservatives have been quoted in the Dorking Advertiser saying that, whilst there is no current definitive plan, development is most likely in the rural south of the district.

Liberal Democrat Campaigner Lesley Bushnell said, "Development on this scale in our area would be totally inappropriate and would almost certainly involve loss of Green Belt and/or rural farmland which we strongly oppose."
