Elizabeth Daly High StStraight-talking Elizabeth Daly is the Lib Dem District Council candidate for Bookham South in May.

Originally from Glasgow, Elizabeth now lives in Bookham. She is a proud no-nonsense Scot with a passion for children's welfare, based on her own tough childhood in the Glasgow housing schemes. Despite gaining a place at a top grammar school, she left at 16 so she could support her family, working first as an accounts clerk at United Biscuits and then at General Accident before taking a leading Scottish childcare qualification and moving to England. Elizabeth has since performed a number of roles with schools, including working as a playworker covering three Sure Start children's centres in Guildford, and now works at a local nursery school.

In Bookham, Elizabeth has been a leading figure in the successful Lib Dem campaign to save Leatherhead Hospital, and is supporting local residents who want to restore a direct bus service between Leatherhead and Guildford along the A246. She feels strongly about the need to preserve the Green Belt and find ways to maintain the vibrant character of the Village High Street. She wants to see more affordable housing for families, with more activities for young people, and she wants to see more community policing in local trouble-spots. She also wants to see 20mph speed limits near schools and in local roads where there is a demand from residents.
