Lesley NewdigateLesley has close ties and great affection for this area. Born and brought up in Dorking, she was amongst the very first residents of the then, brand new Goodwyns Estate in the 1950s. She moved out of the area for university and work, couldn't resist returning and Capel has been home for her and husband Colin, for the past 25 years.

Lesley worked within the healthcare sector for 30 years, latterly as a businesswoman running a small specialised advertising agency in Covent Garden. She "retired" somewhat early to follow a dream and recently achieved a PhD in archaeology. Now, with time, energy and aptitude, alongside some varied life experience, she wants to help her local community.

Recently, she has been actively involved in local politics and worked hard for the successful Liberal Democrat campaigns, firstly against the Conservative threat of a 15% Council Tax rise and later against the proposed closure of the tips at Dorking and Cranleigh. Road safety issues are important to her and she is supporting residents in their fight against increased HGV traffic on dangerous sections of the A24 near Capel.

Lesley is passionate about providing housing that young people can afford to buy and rent in this expensive area and if elected would campaign for greater investment in council houses.
