Beare Green stays green

Green Belt

The Jan-Mar 2000 consultation included a number of Green Belt sites which had been identified by the Conservatives' call for sites in December 2007. This included the site for 480 new homes South of the village.

The Lib Dem administration introduced stricter criteria for which land could be removed from the Green Belt and this site failed to meet these criteria and so has been dropped from the Plan.

Housing allocation

The site at Breakspear Farm still met the stricter Green Belt criteria on which land could be removed from the Green Belt and so has been retained but with the housing figure reduced from 55 new homes to 46. It will be required to provide its quota of affordable housing and so will help young local families who wish to stay in the village. There are also requirements to provide play facilities and to safeguard mature trees and hedgerows
