Strong planning policies will safeguard Mole Valley residents and future-proof our environment
More affordable housing and more homes with social rent
In the new plan, larger developments must provide affordable homes at a rate of 40%, as policy.
Of those, 70% would be for rent and 30% for shared ownership. 1 in 5 of these affordable rented houses must be at social rent i.e., the lowest rent set by the government.
Shared ownership homes will make it easier for young families to get on the housing ladder. We need more estates, such as this one built recently at Bookham, which includes good-quality, well designed houses for rent and the one underway at Brockham where all but a few houses are affordable homes. New environmental policies
- Stronger climate change policies will require major developments to be zero-carbon;
- We will be the first Council to introduce a ground-breaking policy for a 20% biodiversity net gain;
- New policies will protect air and water quality, agriculture, heritage and landscapes.
