£400 energy grant applications go live

25 Feb 2023

The Government has now announced that those people who were ineligible for the £400 rebate off their electricity bills can now apply via the Gov.uk website under the "Energy Bills Support Scheme". The affected households are ones that do not have a direct contract with an electricity supplier, including many in Park Homes, almshouses, sheltered accommodation and houses of multiple occupation.

The web-site to use is:

However there have been warnings about scam web sites, so please make sure that the page you are looking at is on the gov.uk website. Be very cautious if you receive a link to a web-site from a source that you do not trust.

The web page gives more details about what information you will need to have to hand, so we suggest you read this before clicking on "Start Now" to start the application process.

If you cannot apply online or need help with your application, contact the helpline team.

David Preedy, Lib Dem councillor for Box Hill & Headley, says: "We are delighted that this process is now at last available and understand residents' frustration that it has taken so long to reach this point. I and other Lib Dem councillors have been campaigning for this since last Summer when the anomaly was identified.

"Because the Government failed to tackle this issue promptly, many residents have had to face higher fuel bills over the coldest part of winter without this valauble assistance."
