Ashtead Brexometers
Residents' views were consistent throughout the day

Visitors at yesterday's Ashtead Village Day gave clear messages on Brexit to the Government. By putting their views on our Brexometer throughout the day they showed that:

  • they overwhelmingly don't think that Brexit is going well;
  • they think it will be bad both for jobs and for the NHS;
  • they want a People's Vote on the final deal.

Lib Dem campaigner David Preedy says "These results are consistent with similar exercises carried out across the country; they show growing dissatisfaction with the handling of the Brexit negotiations and its likely impact on jobs and the NHS. We chatted with many people after they had cast their votes and many were NHS employees who told us of their genuine concerns about the impact already being seen on NHS staffing.

"The narrow result on the advisory Brexit referendum has uncovered deep divisions in the country with many people unclear what the Leave option meant; last week's events show that this includes members of the Cabinet. The only way we can start to rebuild unity is by having a People's Vote when it is clear what alternative to EU membership is actually being proposed."

The results of the Brexometer are being handed in to local MP, Chris Grayling, to consider before this week's important votes in the House of Commons.

Many thanks to all who took part and shared their views.
