Sports & Leisure Upgrade
Dorking and Leatherhead Sports / Leisure Centres now have new management, under a 15 year contract to the leisure centre operator GLL (trading as “Better”). GLL is a not-for-profit, Charitable Social Enterprise, owned by its employees. With 250 centres managed across the UK it brings a huge amount of experience, and has exciting plans for both Dorking and Leatherhead.
Dorking users will see changes over the next few months – including a “concierge” reception area, re-opening of the café, upgrading of gym and studio equipment and updating changing facilities. There is an even more extensive upgrade programme for Leatherhead. GLL and MVDC are also jointly developing an Active Communities Programme, including schemes to increase sport and leisure opportunities for children in care, care leavers, resettled refugees and seniors. This new partnership also brings access to the GLL Sports Foundation, which provides financial and other support to talented young athletes on their sporting journey.
Cllr. Nick Wright, Liberal Democrat Cabinet Member for Leisure & Tourism, said, “This is not only a re-brand! Our new operator is bringing new ideas, investment and opportunities for sport and wellbeing throughout Mole Valley – and I am delighted to be working with them on behalf of our residents.”
