Our new hospital - faster bigger better… but where is it?
The planned new emergency critical care hospital in Sutton will benefit all those who live in Ashtead. It is closer to the village than crumbling St Helier - where the most serious emergency cases are currently taken.
The new emergency care hospital will also hugely benefit Epsom hospital as it will free up space to enable necessary improvements for a range of local services. Together with St Helier, these district hospitals will work in tandem with the new emergency hospital at Sutton so providing a more modern hospital service that better serves our local community.
This is great news - but where is our new hospital? When will the Tory government stop prevaricating and hand over the promised £500m to be spent on hospital provision for Epsom, Ashtead, Leatherhead and Ewell?
Our local NHS is brilliant but it’s under massive pressure and it’s inefficient. Thanks for the Tories inability to keep up the pace of change needed to provide the best modern hospital facilities.
Just recently the Trust had to put out a red alert to say that he had run out of bed spaces at St Helier for 55 needy patients and this isn’t the first time. This is how bad things have got, yet we hear nothing but promises from this feeling Government.
Six years ago, a hospital report said “While Epsom is best for local services, we cannot continue to deliver acute services across two sites and deliver all the required quality standards. There are not enough senior clinical specialist staff to run the key services at two hospitals. In the long term our hospitals will not be clinically sustainable and are at-risk of services being closed and moved to other hospitals.”
Helen Maguire, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Epsom & Ewell seat which includes Ashtead and Leatherhead, said:
"The Liberal Democrats ‘Fair Deal’ promise seeks a fair, prosperous and innovative economy that promotes opportunity and wellbeing. With a strong economy, we can offer good public services. That is what I want for Epsom & Ewell.”
