Dorking Masterplan - West Street pedestrianisation will not feature

Commenting on the progress made, Councillor Stephen Cooksey said, “I would like to thank the residents and businesses that responded to the recent consultation on masterplan ideas and projects – over 1,200 responses were received. I’m delighted to confirm that progress to produce a final document is now underway.
“A masterplan is necessary to enable bids for resources to be made and funding to be secured to make significant improvements to the town centre environment.
“Many of the responses were supportive and complementary, however there were
controversial issues, all of which are being taken into account as the final plan is developed.
“Perhaps the most controversial issue was consideration of the pedestrianisation of West Street, which provoked significant opposition – this will not now feature as a project in the plan.
“The timetable is very tight but we will meet the government requirement to have it ready for the end of March 2025.”
