Surrey County Council has agreed to allow residents to dispose free of charge of small quantities of household DIY waste at its largest Community Recycling Centres.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Paula Keay is calling for this to be extended to smaller sites like Dorking and for the tip to be open 7 days a week rather than the current 3 days. This free DIY waste allowance at the larger Recycling Centres such as Leatherhead is limited to a single visit per week. There are conditions details of which can be found on the Surrey County Council website.

Liberal Democrat County Councillor Hazel Watson said, “Whilst welcome, this is unlikely to deter fly-tipping in our area as our local Tips will still not accept such waste and they remain closed several days each week."
