Gatwick Expansion Plans
Gatwick Airport have announced expansion plans to use the current Northern emergency runway as a permanent runway together with new buildings & other infrastructure including roads to expand the airport’s current capacity.
The Liberal Democrats are opposed to these expansion plans, we believe the airport should be working to reduce its existing emissions, noise & traffic congestion that blight the local area.
Gatwick Airport’s expansion plans are a travesty of environmental responsibility. They will see a large increase in emissions. Emissions must go down not up!
Last week our prospective parliamentary candidate for Dorking & Horley, Chris Coghlan joined local conservation groups & members of other parties in a demonstration against these plans.
Capel, Leigh, Newdigate, Charlwood and Hookwood Councillor, Alcia Loach, said, “Expansion on this scale would be a disaster for local residents. Our roads and services are already under huge pressure, not to mention the increased noise pollution over a wide area.”
