It's a clear choice in Charlwood and Hookwood
About Mike... Mike is an experienced campaigner and former Councillor with strong governance skills. He served 16 years on Mole Valley including 3 years as the Lib Dem group leader and was Chair of the Housing Committee when Mole Valley was responsible for social housing. He has also stood twice for the County Council. Other roles he has had include Chair of the Trustee Board of a large company pension scheme, School Governor, Chair of the Gatwick campaign group Plane Wrong and member of Gatwick Airport's Noise Management Board. Mike believes that Charlwood and Hookwood needs a strong voice on the Council to ensure that its interests are well looked after and threats mitigated. If the Inspector approves the Local Plan and the Council adopts it, it will be especially important to ensure that the necessary improvements to schools, roads, health services and much more are all properly planned and delivered when needed. Mike is also a strong supporter of the Lib Dem Council's plans for local action on climate change and will help find ways to do even more. He is also committed to social housing and will encourage as much provision as possible to help local families remain in the area. Mike is also well aware of the concerns about speeding in and around both villages. He has a record of action on this having led the successful campaign to lower the speed limits in the village and on the A217 when he was a County Council candidate in 2013. He will work with residents and the Parish Council to establish what further measures are needed and could be acceptable, perhaps including 20mph limits in the village centres. Mike has retired from many of his roles, including all paid work, and so has time to take on this responsibility. |
