Bookham Lib Dems are campaigning to extend the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), to give extra protection for our countryside.

Monica Weller is backing the campaign, which would extend the AONB northwards to include Effingham and Bookham Commons, and down to the River Mole at Fetcham. Central to the campaign is the beautiful site of special scientific interest at Bookham Commons.

Meanwhile, the Lib Dems have removed 20 greenfield sites from the draft Local Plan, reducing the number of Green Belt homes planned for Bookham, Fetcham and Leatherhead from 1400 to less than 400. These sites were put forward in response to the previous Conservative administration's call for more "urban extensions" into the Green Belt to meet Government housing targets.

Our Bookham Liberal Democrat councillors will be raising residents' concerns with the Government inspector over the two remaining sites which Government guidelines still require to be considered.
