One of the first actions after Liberal Democrats took control of the Council in 2019 was a resolution to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

And the Council has been pressing ahead with changes that have already reduced its carbon footprint by 21%.

Installing heat pumps and LED lighting to Dorking Halls and Pippbrook offices are examples of progress to date and funds have been secured to install LED lighting at Dorking and Leatherhead Leisure Centres.

Cabinet member for Climate Change, Cllr. Claire Malcolmson said,

“We also want to install solar panels at Leatherhead Leisure Centre and in our car parks and are working hard to obtain the financial resources to achieve this.”
