Speeding in villages

Mickleham 20 mph limit shows a way forward for other villages
The 20mph speed limit through the centre of Mickleham Village, requested by Box Hill School a decade ago and subsequently backed by village residents with an impressive presentation to the Mole Valley Local Committee, has been implemented.
The County Council failed to progress these initial requests but in 2022, when it allocated funds to reduce speed limits outside schools, Liberal Democrat County Councillor Hazel Watson convinced the County Council’s Schools Active Travel Team to develop and fund a 20mph speed limit proposal outside Box Hill School. This was then approved in the statutory consultation in late 2024.
Hazel Watson said, “In addition, a 30mph speed limit has been introduced from the Burford Bridge to Headley Lane. And Headley residents will benefit from the 40mph limits on roads from Leatherhead to the village due in June.”
