The drop-ins held by the Joint Venture for the Bull Hill and Swan Centre redevelopment have had a very good turnout, with over 500 people attending the four in-person events held to date, watching the webinar and providing feedback on the proposals.

Cllr. Keira Vyvyan-Robinson, said, “We have seen lots of interest in these initial proposals which have given the design team lots of food for thought.  We know that key concerns for residents centre on the relocation of the park from one side of the site to the other, and about the potential heights of buildings so it’s been valuable to get feedback on these points at this early stage.”

Revisions to the proposals can now be made and a further consultation will follow in the Autumn.

At the same time, the council expects that housing targets imposed by the new Labour government will lead to further revisions to the Local Plan.

“That will mean we need to make best use of brownfield sites such as Bull Hill,” Cllr. Vyvyan-Robinson continued.  “The alternative may be to permit development of the Green Belt, which residents have made clear in previous consultations they are against.

“Also, as a partner in the Joint Venture, the District Council will share equally in any future profits, which could help to fund new investments here such as community and sporting facilities, running cultural events and continuing to support businesses and individuals through grant schemes.”
