Government cancels democracy in Surrey

With so much going wrong with Surrey County Council - from terrible failings in child safeguarding and Special Educational Needs, to our perennially potholed roads - residents deserve the opportunity to hold “the powers that be” to account.

Yet the Labour Government has cancelled this year's Surrey County Council elections, due in May 2025, allowing the Conservatives to cling onto power.

The excuse is that it will allow the County Council to rush through plans to abolish the current our District and Borough councils and create larger Unitary Authorities.
