Will the County elections in May 25 be cancelled?

The Tory Leader of Surrey County Council has written to the Government asking for the County elections, due in May 2025, to be cancelled. The justification is that it will enable the County Council to move more quickly to reorganise the Councils in Surrey.

The decision now rests with the Government and is expected before the end of January. Meanwhile Lib Dems across Mole Valley are continuing to campaign vigorously with leaflet delivery, recruitment of volunteers and canvassing of residents.

Following the request from the Leader of Surrey for cancellation, a letter has been sent to the Minister signed by Leaders of all Surrey Boroughs and Districts (of different political persuasions) and by the Surrey Liberal Democrat MPs, asking the Government to ensure that the elections are allowed to take place as normal.

A petition was created by Al Pinkerton MP to allow residents to express their opposition to the possible cancellation of the elections
