Philippa Shimmin - Candidate for Mole Valley District Council
Philippa has lived in Ashtead for many years and brought up her family here. Her children attended local
schools. She is a teacher who specialises in teaching children with learning difficulties and was a volunteer for the Young Carers club.
She was a Mole Valley District Councillor from 2012-2016. She chaired the Access group ensuring that people with disabilities had their voice heard and action was taken to meet their needs. She was a board member of Mole Valley Housing Association and was on several council committees and working groups.
She has actively campaigned to protect local services and ensure young people and children have the services and facilities they need. She cares about enabling disadvantaged people to have their voice heard, protecting our special environment and improving and maintaining our services, as a member of the council she will be in a position to take action on this.
Since leaving the council she has been a governor of Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust, the school and college at Young Epilepsy and a Trustee of Leatherhead United Charities.
