Rosemary Hobbs - Mole Valley District Council Candidate

Rosemary 2021

Born in Manchester, Rosemary has lived in North Holmwood for over thirty years. Her children were educated locally and she served two terms as a Governor at St John's School. Rosemary worked extensively in Mathematics Education and as a secondary school Head of Department and continues to keep abreast of national developments in education through tutoring, examining and membership of the National Education Union. She is a strong believer in the importance of high quality Early Years provision to improve outcomes for socially disadvantaged children.

Rosemary is keen to maintain local services especially for the young, the vulnerable and the elderly, and currently volunteers with Dorking Good Neighbours and Syrian refugees. She is committed to protecting our beautiful environment and promoting the benefits of being outdoors for physical and mental health, and leads a regular Walk for Health and litter picks around Holmwood Common.

Along with many others, Rosemary rediscovered the joys of cycling during the COVID-19 lockdowns when the roads were quieter. She is keen to promote walking and cycling locally for environmental and health reasons and to maintain this new enthusiasm for sustainable forms of travel. She would like to see improvements to the local footpath and cycle track infrastructure to increase their safety and promote their use. She is also keen to see greater use of local bus services.

On housing, Rosemary wants to see developers required to provide significantly more affordable housing locally within the Local Plan, and Housing Associations providing more good quality rental properties.
