There was a packed venue in Newdigate as local residents turned out on 3rd October to listen to a talk about the recent "swarm" of earthquakes in Surrey. The talk was given by Dt Richard Luckett from the British Geological Society (BGS) and had been organised by local LibDem campaigner, Lesley Bushnell. Lesley reports:

'East Dorking Masterplan is Unacceptable’

The latest proposals from the consultants employed by Mole Valley to prepare a Masterplan for the East Dorking Pippbrook Site were revealed at a meeting of 'stakeholders' last night. Liberal Democrat Councillors in Dorking and the surrounding area have labelled the proposals massively disappointing and totally unacceptable.

Lib Dems Fight to protect Mole Valley's Children's Centres from Cuts

Liberal Democrat councillors have successfully engaged Mole Valley Council to actively resist the funding cut of up to 58% that Surrey County Council is planning for our Children's Centres. At the July Council meeting, the Council agreed a Lib Dem motion calling for opposition to the cuts and mitigating action to reduce their impact.

Lib Dem stall raises money for local charities

Many thanks to numerous Ashtead residents and visitors who came to visit our stall at yesterday's Ashtead Village Day. Our soft toy tombola was very popular and raised funds for three local charities - the Epsom Foodbank, Ashtead Youth Centre and Leatherhead Children's Centre.

Ashtead Independents Rescue Tory Administration

Mole Valley residents face a further year of Conservative policies following a rescue by the Ashtead Independent Group at the Annual meeting of Mole Valley Council last night. At the elections earlier this month the Conservative administration lost its overall majority as a consequence of a swing to the Liberal Democrats. For the first time in a number of years the Liberal Democrats polled the largest number of votes across Mole Valley indicating that the electorate were looking for a significant change in policies and direction.

Headley Court: Lib Dem initiative to secure community value

Local Liberal Democrats have taken the initiative to secure value to the community for the future use of Headley Court. At their instigation, Mole Valley District Council has taken steps to ensure that any future owner of the site understands the value associated with on-going employment at the site, with a full quota of affordable housing in any residential development and with future uses which retain the centre's expertise in rehabilitation and use of the specialist facilities for their original purpose.
