Bookham & Fetcham West - Andrew Matthews

Andrew grew up in Fetcham and has lived locally for over 35 years, he is a councillor for Bookham East and Eastwick Park at Mole Valley District Council and lives in Bookham with his wife and family.

As a parent to children with autism, Andrew understands the challenges faced by schools and families and will demand better special educational needs provision and hold Surrey County Council to account.

Andrew has worked in rail transport for over 24 years, his experience means he is well placed to fight for better train services and highways improvements. He will ensure our roads and public transport services are prioritised, and champion safe routes to schools for our children with improved walking and cycling provision.

Andrew has led a campaign for better accessibility at Bookham Station and has won initial support from Surrey County Council for an accessible bridge with lifts. He secured funding for the reopening of the station toilets with the additional provision of an accessible cubicle, and he is responsible for the new display screens on the platforms. He continues to champion step-free access at the station.

Andrew enjoys spending some of his spare time helping in the community and volunteers at South Bookham SPACE where he is a trustee and the facilities officer looking after the centre. He also has worked with the residents associations on projects to improve our villages, and he enjoys taking part in community litter picks.

Andrew’s knowledge and experience means he can deliver for Fetcham and Bookham residents at Surrey County Council.
