Dorking Rural - Peter Lambell
Peter has lived in Betchworth in the Dorking Rural division for 12 years. Previously he lived in Reigate where he grew up, and was County Councillor for Reigate Central from 2009 – 2013.
As former vice chair of governors of Brooklands School for children with profound and multiple learning disabilities, Peter has a particular interest in education. He was a member of Surrey County Council's Education Select Committee and was the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Education. He therefore understands how Surrey continues to fail in providing adequately for children with Special Educational Needs and their parents, and fully supports local MP Chris Coghlan’s campaign for improvement.
As a councillor, he also worked to protect bus services from cuts, and to ensure respite care for parents with disabled children.
Peter is also a leading member of the airport campaign group Plane Wrong and played a key role in forcing Gatwick to remove new departure routes that they tried to introduce without adequate consultation. He continues to be active in opposing the second runway and seeking reduced aircraft noise and fair distribution of noise.
He is a graduate of Oxford Brookes University and the College of Law in Guildford and has spent most of his working life as a Finance IT professional.
In his spare time he enjoys growing vegetables and baking and is a regular contributor (and occasional winner) of entries to the Leigh village show.
Peter is married to Judith, a Civil Engineer specialising in sustainable development.
