Former army officer Chris Coghlan has been selected as Mole Valley Liberal Democrats' prospective parliamentary candidate for the next general election. Chris takes over from Cllr Paul Kennedy, who stood in the last three general elections and increased the Lib Dem vote from 14% in 2015 to 34% (19,615 votes) in 2019, the local party's best ever result in Mole Valley constituency.
Hello everyone, there is plenty going on as usual!
Amidst the chaos, sleaze and attempts to dodge accountability from this Tory Government, your locally elected Lib Dem-led Council is working hard to defend services and show what honest and accountable government looks like.
Since winning control of Mole Valley District Council, the Lib Dems have implemented Phase 1 of their Action Plan to mitigate Climate Change...
New analysis by the Liberal Democrats has revealed Britain's nine biggest water companies made a total £2.8bn in operating profits last year. Thames Water, which is responsible for waste water in our area and dumps sewage into the River Mole at its Pixham works, made £488.8m in 2020/21.
As the Climate Change Cabinet Member, Claire Malcomson led the Liberal Democrat Administration's Motion in the Council Chamber, working cross party to Declare an Ecology Emergency. MVDC is one of only 15% of councils to do this and is proud to spearhead this initiative.
As your Climate Change Cabinet Member, I am making sure lots is going on: The 24th September is the first day of The Great Big Green Week, which runs until 2nd October. Mole Valley District Council is supporting this by asking our residents to make a pledge. The pledge will be for 2 months. It could be pledging to reuse a bottle or cup instead of using disposable ones, to pledging to share lifts with other parents or colleagues. Click here for ideas and how to join in
Welcome to my second Blog. These are specially to keep you up to date with what I am doing as the Climate Change Member for Mole Valley. I am very privileged to have this position and take my work very seriously. So much so, I have gone back to Uni. as a mature student and am half way through my master's in Sustainable Development and Environment. Here are some of the things we have been moving forward with:
Few know that Mole Valley, through its division Mole Valley Life, offer inexpensive, useful and in some cases award winning services, to promote independence and dignity to our older and more vulnerable citizens living at home. They also work with Surrey on some interesting trials to assist the community.
At the July meeting of Mole Valley Council, Claire Malcomson, Lib Dem Cabinet Member for Climate Change, proposed a motion to request the Surrey Pension Fund and its investments reach net zero by 2035; and that suitable interim carbon budgets are set. After much debate Full Council agreed to it unanimously. This makes Mole Valley the first Council in Surrey to do this.
